How are BMBs being equipped in theological education around the world?

Insights from ICETE Conference

In March this year, two of our team attended the ICETE (International Council for Evangelical Theological Education) conference, where over 600 people involved in theological education gathered from across the globe.

“It was eye-opening to see the diversity of theological education worldwide,” shares Boby, our Curriculum Coordinator.

Word of Life’s approach has always been to ensure our resources as academically robust but also relevant to the local communities who will use them. The “Come Follow Me” discipleship course is an example of how we aim to create resources that are both theological and practical, equipping BMBs to walk with God and serve him effectively in their own communities.

Boby is leading our work in developing a curriculum of study resources for believers from Muslim backgrounds (BMBs). The conference highlighted the need to be:

  • Contextual
  • Flexible
  • Integrated

“It was also striking to hear that very few women are involved in theological education. It’s good that they are thinking on this issue. It was encouraging to hear from some women how they have thrived in their position. There was a topic “Women teaching and learning in the midst of trauma.” Theological education in times of trauma is greatly needed. In our curriculum plan we also have a topic of trauma. It’s a very timely relevant subject” she said.

This growing landscape of theological education is something we at WoL are excited to be a part of, as we too are committed to providing accessible training for leaders who might otherwise have limited access to traditional theological education. For us, this was not only a chance to learn but also a moment to share the vision of Word of Life (WoL).

The ICETE conference opened some doors for future collaborations. We met with organisations already equipping BMBs. Some of them are using the “Come Follow Me” course and shared our vision for the new curriculum we are developing. These connections will help us expand our reach and deepen the impact of our work in training leaders for the church.

Support the mission of Word of Life – join us in equipping leaders to serve effectively and reach the nations with the love of Christ. Together, we can continue to strengthen the church, equip leaders, and advance the gospel across the world.
